May 2012, Volume 2, Issue 5

Happy May, everyone!

My favorite article this month is one exploring the research on how to make ourselves smarter – and ward off dementia.  One way to do that is to learn something new.  Not just dancing, which was highlighted in the article, but anything new.  Don’t worry about the probability that you’ll never use it in the future.  Take a class to challenge your mind – and have some fun, too!  This article made me really grateful for my own dance practice.

QUOTE OF THE MONTH
Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It’s a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity.

One of my favorite people in telehealth – a real leader, very knowledgeable about technology, and an all-around nice guy. Best quote: “Virtual medicine should not be a fallback when you can’t have somebody there with you. In many ways, it should become the first way we actually interact with each other before we ask people to get in their cars and drive places, to waste gasoline and parking.” Not to mention the environmental benefits!
