December 2013, Volume 3, Issue 12

Happy December, SynerLINK friends,

This season brings many of us to explore what we are thankful for as we review the past year, and this month’s lead article raises many thought-provoking questions about this practice.  I really appreciated this article, which discusses the nature of gratitude practice.  Although I’m not a fan of those places in the article that seem to promote judging one another for how deep or shallow we perceive their gratitude practice to be – after all, I’m in support of gratitude in any form – I loved the idea of exploring gratitude for things we don’t normally feel grateful for.  What would it be like to embrace gratitude for the variety of our experiences – those that are small and everyday, those that are imperfect, or those that we may normally label as negative?  (Warning: some adult language.)

September 2013, Volume 3, Issue 9

Happy September, SynerLINK friends,

I am very excited to officially announce the launch of my new book, 7 Foundations of Health and Happiness: Building a Bridge to Balance.  This book will guide you in creating your own balanced life. Based on the best of ancient wisdom traditions and modern scientific research, this program is life balance for the “real world”.  If you want to create a science-based, practical plan for greater health and happiness, this book is here to help you achieve that goal.  This book poses essential questions to help you assess your current level of balance using the ground-breaking Pillar System. It then walks you step-by-step through the stages of self-assessment, self-acceptance, and self-change to build your ideal life.

You can buy a fillable e-book in PDF format directly through my site, which is currently on sale for 1/3 off the regular price:
http://www.mcssl.com/store/synergeniusconsulting/7-foundations-of-health-happiness-building-a-bridge-to-balance
or you can purchase a hard copy of the book through Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Foundations-Health-Happiness-Building-Balance/dp/162225404X

As part of the new book launch, I have also updated and expanded 7 Foundations of Health and Happiness: First Steps, which is still available free on my website.  Please send your friends, family, and colleagues to the site to get their very own free copy.

My favorite article this month explores the power of the word “No”.  Our creativity, our energy, and our contribution to the world are well served by learning how to use it.  What can you say “no” to this month?  How would that serve your greater goals and purpose?

Hope to see you in Colorado this month!

My favorite article this month isn’t an article – it’s a video.  This Science of Happiness film shows the power of gratitude to impact your own happiness – not just the person you are grateful to.  I recommend this practice to clients frequently.  This 7 minute video is well worth a watch – just be sure to grab your handkerchief first. (warning: couple of swear words made it past the “beep” towards the end.)

This month’s article really hit home for me.  The idea of purposely living a slower life, and letting go of the “everything” that is tempting me to try to “do it all” is revolutionary, and something I have struggled with throughout my life.  How would your life change if you did only three things with all your love and attention, rather than attempting to do 20 at once, doing none fully?

June 2013, Volume 3, Issue 6

Happy June, SynerLink friends,

My favorite article this month is actually a collection of articles on the effects of stress on our ability to think.  Stress leads to bad decision making for everyone – no matter your background, your personality, your education, or your skills.  Not sure you need to manage your stress?  Check out this month’s set of articles to learn how stress may be affecting you – and how to prevent its negative impact.

May 2013, Volume 3, Issue 5

Happy May, SynerLink friends,

Welcome to our new look!  We have just finished a brand new logo for SynerGenius Consulting, as well as our SynerLINK newsletter. But that is only the tip of the iceberg.  We’ve rebuilt the entire website from the ground up, with new helpful resources, easy navigation, and the latest updates on all our current, enhanced services.  With your input, we’ve also re-vamped the services we offer, creating high-impact programs that support you in resolving your biggest problems, while ensuring our programs will fit easily into your busy schedule.  Take some time to check out the new site – we’d love to hear what you think!

My favorite article this month regards how we, as a culture, equate busy-ness with being successful or important, or even worthwhile or valuable as a person.  This article has some great tips on how to stop the glorification of busy.

Since our May 1 newsletter, we have even more new updates to announce. Click the links below to check out our new Facebook and LinkedIn groups devoted to discussing the 7 Foundations, where I’ll be keeping you up-to-date on the latest science to support your health and happiness.  Join us there for the latest news!

Our apologies for the repeat email for some of you, and for the late newsletter for the others.  Unfortunately, our email provider experienced a technical glitch this month that resulted in only half of our list receiving our message last week.  The problem has been fixed, and we don’t expect any future related issues.  Sorry for any inconvenience!

April 2013, Volume 3, Issue 4

Happy April,  SynerLink friends,

Some of you may not be aware of my work with the Board of the International Network of Integrative Mental Health (www.INIMH.org), so I thought I’d take a moment this month to update you.  This wonderful group recently organized an educational exchange to Cuba with the help of MEDICC (Medical Education Cooperative with Cuba).  It was an amazing learning experience and a unique opportunity to connect with mental health professionals in Cuba.  We were, of course, very impressed with the Cuba health care system’s focus on prevention  as well as their commitment to integrative health care, with complementary and alternative medicines – Natural and Traditional Medicine to Cuban s – being not only available, but an integral, valued part of the public health care system.  However, what struck me most about our visit was the sense of community and connection.  The neighborhood family doctor not only knew each patient, but knew their family, even having a “family chart” that collected everyone’s medical information.  The warmth and connection they offer to one another as a community, and which supports them in thriving despite their economic hardship, was palpable.  As we in the States get more isolated from one another, spending more and more time alone behind our screens, I can’t help but wonder – how can we capture the best of both worlds?  How can we create a society that provides the freedom and comforts of the U.S. while not losing the sense of connection and community that Cuba has in abundance – and which we ourselves once enjoyed, as well?  What can you do this month to build community in your neighborhood and in your life?    Enjoy this month’s feature article, which is a beautiful photo slide show by photographer Alex Webb, who has been documenting street life in Cuba for 20 years.

March 2013, Volume 3, Issue 3

Happy March, SynerLink friends,

My favorite article of the month is about busyness and its insidious effect on our mental health.  In what ways is our largely self-imposed frenzy keeping you from really connecting with your life?
