March 2018, Volume 7, Issue 3

Happy March, SynerLINK Friends,

This month is our technology issue, where we’ll be exploring our relationship to technology and some tools to get control of our tech use in a way that supports our well-being.  Our top link of the month is a great resource for supporting all 7 of our Foundations. When we aren’t mindlessly losing huge chunks of time absorbed into our social media sites, we can make more thoughtful choices about how we want to spend the limited time in our days. This link is the first of an excellent series of articles on balancing the positives and negatives of social media in a way that serves your overall wellness. I am a huge fan of Deepika’s work, and this online book is a great resource for creating balance in your life.

February 2018, Volume 7, Issue 2

Happy February, SynerLINK Friends,

Thank you so much for your patience this month. Our newsletter was a bit delayed by some technical problems, which are now corrected.

It has also come to my attention that those of you who subscribed in the last few months may not have been receiving this newsletter at all. Apologies for that! Please check out our newsletter archives here: http://www.synergeniusconsulting.com/blog/ There are some great resources there to support your health and happiness, so don’t miss them!

This month, we’re going to be looking at both Foundation 4 – Self – and Foundation 5 – Relationships – because they are so intertwined. Our link of the month is especially relevant in our modern culture, where conflict and disconnection sometimes leads to our thinking or behaving in ways that aren’t as empathetic as we would like when trying to live according to our values and highest purpose. This level of compassion and empathy actually needs to start with our own self-love. This article is a beautiful explanation of why self-compassion means more compassion for everyone!

January 2018, Volume 7, Issue 1

Happy December, SynerLINK Friends,

Happy New Year! This month we will be focusing on bringing all the 7 Foundations into balance, which is the key to living a healthier, happier life.

Our link of the month is a video explaining Tabless Thursdays. I believe this could be revolutionary. What if single-tasking became the new norm? How would your life be different. Join me in trying Tabless Thursday. While you’re at it – turn off those new-email notifications on your computer. Leaving your email open drops your working IQ by 10 points – more than showing up to work on drugs!

December 2017, Volume 6, Issue 12

Happy December, SynerLINK Friends,

This month’s holiday gift is some great news for the functional and integrative psychiatry community. The latest published research is backing up Dr. Walsh’s work in micronutrients as safe, powerful treatments for mental illnesses. This is a pilot study, but the initial results show good effects for aggression and violence, with far fewer side effects than normally caused by pharmaceuticals. Read the full-text below.

This month’s other links include several fascinating new developments and important discussions in mental health treatment – enjoy!

November 2017, Volume 6, Issue 11

Happy November, SynerLINK Friends,

This month’s top link is to the video recording of my talk at the Mental Health Coalition of Verde Valley’s 2017 Mental Health Summit: “Innovation, Technology & the Future of Mental Health Therapy”. I was honored to share the stage with such luminaries as Dr. Leslie Korn. I hope you enjoy it!

I would also like to spend some time this month on Foundation 2 – Movement. One of my own tried-and-true tricks for the holidays is to start a new exercise resolution just before Thanksgiving. That way, my maximum motivation and willpower, which is highest early in a behavior change, overlaps with the hardest times for nutrition, with holidays, travel, and family events. This allows me to maintain a healthy weight over the holidays, and get a jump start on the New Year!

October 2017, Volume 6, Issue 10

Happy October, SynerLINK Community Members,

This month, I’d like to take a closer look at telemedicine, which is a key cornerstone of my practice. I’m thrilled to have been invited to speak about telemedicine at the Mental Health Coalition of Verde Valley’s upcoming Mental Health Summit 2017, on October 13th, alongside such luminaries as Dr. Leslie Korn, PhD. The theme is “Innovation, Technology and the Future of Mental Health Therapy”. If you live near Camp Verde, AZ, I encourage you to attend. http://mentalhealthcoalitionvv.org/event/mental-health-summit-2017/

If you’d like a sneak peak of what I’ll be talking about, our first link of the month is to the final video of my recent Functional in Five talk at the Evolution of Medicine, complete with subtitles and fancy edits. Enjoy!

Our second link of the month is to the final version of our published research article in the Journal of Technology in Behavioral Science, which just went to press recently.

September 2017, Volume 6, Issue 9

Happy September, SynerLINK Community Member,

SynerLINK is back after our summer hiatus!  I hope you had a lovely time of rejuventation.

Fall is almost here, and it’s time to talk about the effects of light on our health and well-being. This is such an important factor in that we’re re-visting Foundation 1 for Health and Happiness this month – Rest. This month’s top article is a great review of the evidence for light therapy on mood. Definitely check out Dr. Phelps’ whole site – it’s full of excellent, easy-to-understand explanations on this important topic.

June 2017, Volume 6, Issue 6

Happy June, SynerLINK Friends,

This month is dedicated to the 3rd Foundation of Health and Happiness – Nutrition – as described in my book. Our bodies – and especially our brains – need good quality raw materials or they can’t build us healthy proteins, healthy cells, or health bodies. Our link of the month is to an important documentary on the little-known dangers of sugar.

April 2017, Volume 6, Issue 4

Happy April, SynerLINK Community Friends,

My favorite link of this month is to a video that has created dramatic improvements in my productivity and peace of mind since I started using it. Is email sucking up all your time and energy? Take control with this simple system. The video is long but completely worth your time investment. (It’s also a few years old, but the advice is still spot on!) Hey, the folks at Google like it, and they seem pretty smart!
